Do you see the lectuce hem of dress? This one not so perfect. But if you want to make lettuce hem, just use smallest zigzag stitch.
Begin to sew right next to the edge of the fabric. If the fabric is fraying, begin sewing below the fray line, not on top of it.
As you sew, stretch both sides of the fabric as far as you can (but without tearing :D ).
